This has been much-debated, but IMO it really was the first. I maintain that it was the first synthesizer. Why is it taking so long to achieve drawbar Nirvana? Despite being a relatively old electro-mechanical instrument, effectively pre-dating every other electronic musical instrument in the world, it offers a surprising number of possibilities. Although that search is still ongoing, I’ve had personal favorites along the way. At least, that’s the conclusion I’ve reached after a fifteen-year quest for the perfect drawbar organ emulation. You might assume that the nearly 100-year-old Hammond organ ought to be one of the easiest instruments to either emulate or capture in a sample library.
